For Windows XP First, Now for the important goal: Defragging.
Steps outlined in this section of this site are taken regularly here in our Bat Cave Replica. I do not believe these processes will harm your set up, and I certainly advocate the regular execution of these steps.

Follow the Chain

A Start / Programs
B Accessories
C System Tools
D Disk Defragmenter
(Click)

Click Disk Defragmenter

The screen which appears asks if you
will analyze or Defrag. Chose Defrag
Analysis will happen anyway.

Select Defrag

In the ensuing process ... step away from the keyboard. This may take a while. Give Win XP about 20 minutes. Wait until the Defrag program announces completion. Follow steps for normal exit of applications. You are done!
